Uutiset - NewsOld Skool is back!11.02.2017 I had my Finnish hound operated because of a lump, which turned out to be a gland growth - harmless. The operation went well and after two weeks, following the vet´s instructions I took out the stitches - and all hell brake loose. The wound opened up and skin tissue about the size of a palm was uncovered. I called the vet on call and rushed my dog to her. The dog had to be sedated, but to my relief the wound seemed ok and no inflammtory signs were seen. So the vet stitched the wound after having cleansed it thoroughly. When she was finished she prescribed some pain killers but asked if it was okay NOT to prescribe antibiotics and I said yes. Recently I had seen a documentary about antibiotic resistant strain of viruses, which may develop into super resistant - so any unnecessary use of antibiotics should be avoided. Instead of antibiotics the vet suggested I use a resin cream, which has some antiflammatory qualities. Resin is something the "old people" have known to work for wounds and skin irritation - and that for decades. So far so good, the dog is doing fine and is back to her happy food-stealing self. Obviously the hunting season is now over for her - but yesterday at the pheasant hunt even the pointers got their paws bleeding a little - so it´s just as well! The main thing, Halti the hound is back home and on her way to full recovery!
