Uutiset - NewsHunting Day - A Great Day11.12.2016 This is already a tradition - we gather at a local farm, about 20 of us including half a dozen dogs or so - and then we get organized and start the hunt, using dogs to flush game. At first we got nothing, despite a hare or two giving us a fair chance. Then we changed to another location and got more action. My Luppo got into close contact with a group of roe deer, together with a couple of retrievers and followed them off for a a few hundread meters. The deer - all 3 of them had no problems in getting rid of our dogs and with ease distanced themselves from us and our dogs. At the end of the drives, we had just one hare to show for the hard work! We had a lovely break by the fire and our host had even some very traditional Finnish Christmas pastries for us. Then we had two drives, and the first proved to be a bit dangerous as my GSP found some roe deer - again - and the highway was a little too close for my taste. But he finally did listen to me and turned away in time. The best work he did on a hillside. I could tell he was on hot tracks, he then halted and pointed and I gave him the go and soon therafter I heard a gunshot and very soon Luppo was back with a gift for me. A good sized hare. Yes, we still have a lot to do - he does run in and does not wait for my "say so" before the retrieve, but he retrieves everything he finds, and brings it straight to my hand! At the end of the day, I am sipping some hot chocolate with a hint of brandy, Luppo is having a nap on the sofa, to be honest, he snores!! I had a lovely sauna, a good soak - so I am very happy to start a new week tomorrow. What a great day! This is us getting ready. Luppo at work |
