Uutiset - NewsMies- ja koira-ajoa // Drive hunting15.12.2020 Oman seuran hirvet on kaadettu, joten olen ollut vapaaehtoisena naapuriseuran jahdeissa. Aamupäivästä ei saatu liikkeelle mitään, mutta iltapäivällä koirat - mukana mm. sekarotuinen ja kaksi karjalankarhukoiraa - löysivät hirviä, joista heti saatiin eräksi sonni ja vasa, koiranohjaaja pääsi ampumaan omalle koiralleen - hieno homma! Ja sitten hirvi kaiketi haistaa passimiehet - ja salakavalasti tiheikön suojista liikkuu edessämme sivuittain ja rynnistää kahden viimeisen passimiehen välistä ylös rinteeseen niin, että perskarvat vain vilkkuvat. Ja tilanne on ohi. Kuka sanoo, että on helppoa!! No, vielä vuoden loppuun asti koirajahtia ja sitten vielä kaksi viikkoa tammikuussa ilman koiraa. Peurajahti järjestettiin pitkään aikaan suurimpana miesajojahtina, ja me Teresan kanssa olimme takapassissa, jonka piti olla ihan varma paikka. Olin kaikkein taimmainen ja katselin sopivan paikan. Kahden tien välissä ampumasuunnat olivat rajallisia, joten päätin taas etukäteen minne on sopivaa ampua. Pohdin ja pähkäilin vielä asetunko keskelle vai jompaan kumpaan laitaan minulle osoitettua aluetta. Otin oikean laidan. 
No, jahti ei ollut mikään saalisparaati muutenkaan, tällä porukalla olisi pitänyt päästä kauden avajaisajojahdin 14:een, muttei päästy. Sentään 4 eläintä eräksi. Tällä kertaa keskityimme teitten varsille, peura- ja kauriskolareita on ollut paljon, joten olisi senkin puolesta ollut toivottavaa saada enemmän saalista. Mutta ilmapiiri, seura, koirat - upeaa touhua tämä on, erityisesti tässä meidän seurassa. Kiitos kaverit passissa ja ajoketjussa - fantastinen homma! I am having the time of my life hunting this season - luckily the pandemic has had hardly any affect on hunting activities, so I´ve been out every weekend since the beginning of the season. We have already shot our moose quota, but the neighbouring club still has some left, so I joined them (again). In the morning hours the dogs - two Carelian beardogs and a mixed breed - found nothing, but in the afternoon we got busy. One of the dog handlers managed to shoot a bull, and shortly after a calf was shot as well. I had a great spot by the side of a hill overlooking forest. I heard a moose coming towards me, my rifle has a hand-cocking system, so I cocked, ready to proceed, should the moose come to my clear view. I could not shoot to my right, the next gun was located there, also there were some bushes and wide tree trunks to my left. The moose was smarter than the lot of us - he decided to hide in the thick clump of spruces and then found a way in between two guns, so that he only showed his ass to one of them - and escaped :) We also had a driven deer hunt, and what a great event it was, too. And our guys were so professional about it, we did not gather indoors, had masks for everyone during the transfers - all in all a well organized and executed hunt. I was given a sure spot behind the drive, and all I had to do was to choose whether to be in the middle, center or right of the area. I could not shoot sideways because of the roads, but straight ahead was safe. So I waited. Ofcourse there´s a magnificent male white-tailed deer all of a sudden to my right, no way for a safe shot - so I let him go. A cow also came in front of me, but I could not see her vitals - let her go, too. I try to uphold an ethical approach - safe, planned shooting saving precious meat and trying to shoot to kill, only. Ofcourse I make mistakes and my first ever deer, even if it did die on the spot, was not an ideal kill shot. I try to adjust my shooting to my current skills - and I am visiting the shooting range regularly. In fact I did - and had a chance to shoot a nice vintage rifle; a Sako Finnwolf, a lovely 50-year-old gun in great condition. It is a lever action rifle, what a lovely piece of mechanical engineering - still reliable after 50 years! I am so happy a friend is able to take it with her to Germany! Happy hunting!! |
