Oisko se siinä? // Season finale

Metsästys on parhaimmillaan kun mukana on koira tai koiria ja kanssametsästäjiä, joiden kanssa jaetaan tietoa jahdin etenemisestä. Joskus koiran ajohaukun kuulee, toisinaan se hukkuu tuuleen tai jää vaaran taakse. Jännitys toisen puolesta, kun tietää, jos passikaveri on juuri oikeassa paikassa. Jää odottelemaan laukausta ja ilmoitusta radioon, josko meillä on kaato. Ajojahdit ovat mitä yhteisöllisintä toimintaa.

Kun Riistakeskuksen lupakiintiö sisältää luvut vasoille, naaraille ja pukeille/sonneille, on kyttäysjahti paras tapa valikoivaan saalistamiseen. Tiedän, että mielipiteet jakaantuvat; osan mielestä on raukkamaista ampua eläin sen tullessa ruokailemaan. Itse ajattelen, että se on lopultakin eläimen kannalta yhdentekevää missä se ammutaan, kunhan ammutaan fiksusti; ulkopuolisille vaaraa aiheuttamatta ja eläintä kuolettavasti. 

Tänään peura ehti minua ennen; lehmä huomasi minut samantien, eikä asettunut syömään ja minä olin vielä täysin valmistautumaton - ase lataamaton. Peura ei jäänyt odottelemaan vaan hävisi takaisin metsänsiimekseen. Jäin odottelemaan ja eipä aikaakaan, paikalle tuli kaurislehmä ja kaksi tämän vuoden vasaa. Swarovski Z8i oli suurennoksella 5, riittää hyvin, kun valoa on ja etäisyyttä sellaiset 80 metriä. Valitsin vasoista ja puristin; eläin tipahti ja lähdin hakemaan sitä. Tällä kertaa luoti vaelsi turhan taakse ja fileissä on sanomista - no, pannaan palviin sitten!

Huomenna vielä ehtisi, mutta ehkä tähän on nyt hyvä päättää kausi. 3 kaurista ja 3 peuraa, pärjään maastossa ominkinpäin ja leikkuukin edistyy, vaikka olen edelleen toivottoman hidas, eikä jälki ihan moitteetonta ole. Mutta lihanleikkuutakaan ei opi katsomosta, ohjevideoita on vaikka kuinka - tätä käytän ja edistyn, jos kohta hitaasti ;) 

Tuhnuisessa kelissä ase ja kiikari kastuvat, niinpä oleellista on ottaa ase sisällä kuivumaan - niinkuin kuvasta näkyy :) Olen taas kerran unohtanut valopisteen päälle, mutta eipä sillä ole väliä, Swarovski kun sammuttaa itsensä, kun ase on pystyssä tai kyljellään.  Ja mitä tulee valonläpäisyyteen; 93 %. Vanhemman leidin omatkaan silmät eivät enää tuon paremmasta osaa hyötyä!! 

My choice of optics needs a wipe after a wet weather. I could not have chosen better - Swarovski Z8i 2-16 x 50. 

I love a good drive, preferably with dog/s and my fellow hunters. The thrill of hearing the drive come towards me, deciding in advance where to shoot and how far, and ofcourse bearing in mind what game is allowed. Fellow hunters radio where the drive is headed, and what the dog is driving, is it a white-tailed or a roedeer or the occasional hare or raccoon dog. Each hunt begins with the orders, what we can and what we cannot shoot. No dog owner wants to have a raccoon dog shot for his/her hound, that´s for sure. If a shot is taken, the next step is to let everyone know if you hit. Then we´d all go and help out with field dressing and getting the kill back to our slaughter house. 

My game bag this season is 3 roedeer and 3 white-tailed deer, and I´ve had some practise in field dressing and meat cutting - so I am improving,  even if at times I could be more precise with the knife.. And I am slow, super slow!!

Today I got my third roedeer of the season, a young female who came with another youngster and an older female. The order is always the young first, so I chose one of them and pulled the trigger. The animall fell, but unfortunately the bullet did travel and hit the filet, so I´ll cut the meat and have the roll smoked. 

Tomorrow is the last day of our roedeer and white-tailed deer season, we could continue hare and fox hunting, and ofcourse raccoon dog is open all year round, and we do have quite a few of them. But the main game is now in the bag, and I will be looking forward to the buck season May 16 - June 15! In the mean time, it would be good to shoot a few raccoon dogs as they are considered invasive non-native species.
