Aseseppäilyä // Gunsmithing

Sanottakoon se tähän alkuun, kädentaidot eivät ole vahvuuteni millään tavalla - mutta valitettavasti, jälkiäni korjaamaan joutuvat voisivat todeta - se ei estä minua kokeilemasta. Benellissähän on mahdollisuus fiksailla ihan itse sekä aseen sivuvääryyttä, että tukin pudotusta. Takana on nyt noin 500 laukausta ja tauluun ammunta paljasti, että pudotusta saisi nyt kuitenkin hieman vähentää, koska osuma jää alas.. Eikun aseseppäilemään.

Sain Teuvo Louhisola Oy:llä ohjausta ja näppituntumaa siihen, miten asesopivuuteen voi itsekin vaikuttaa - ja tarvittavat osasethan tulevat aseen mukana. Tarvitaan vain ruuvimeisseli ja T-avain. Ja vaiheittain menee näin:

1. Kuminen perälevy lähtee irrottamalla 2 kumiin upotettua ruuvia. Meisseli kannattaa kastaa vaseliinissa tai öljyssä, ettei tule turhia jälkiä touhutessa.
2. Sitten T-avaimella mutteri irti ja näin lähtee koko takatukki lukkorungosta. Benellissä on sivuvääryyttä tuova peränsäätöpala lukkorungon ja tukin välissä. Koodit löytyvät ohjekirjasta ja sivuvääryyttä saa säätää vasemmalle ja oikealle 3 - 6 mm. 
3. Pudotusta säätävät palat antavat mahdollisuudet räätälöidä kulmaa välille 42,5 - 65 mm aina 2,5 mm välein. Valkkasin koodimerkityt palat ja asetukset 45 mm pudotuksella ja 3 mm sivuvääryydellä (oikealle). 
4. Ruuvasin ja sopivasti kiristin. Eikä ollut edes vaikeaa - tottumattomalta vaan vähän kestää, mutta valmista tuli.
5. Eikun kokeilemaan lopputulosta.

We are all built differently, it would be surreal to think any gun fits. I will say this out loud: the  best way to deal with this, is to take your gun to a pro gunsmith who understands about gun fitting. But because I do like to try things, even if I´m technically clumsy, I don´t mind trying and getting it wrong - but perhaps I´ll learn something along the way.

So I got myself a screwdriver (tool, not the drink..), a T-bar and got to work. Benelli must have been built with someone like me in mind - you don´t need special skills, nor tools to adjust the drop and cast. My test shot revealed, that I could have a little less drop - the hit was a bit below the target. So this is something I should be able to fix by myself. Off to work then!

It was a lot easier than I thought - everything worked as described in the owner´s manual, and quickly (ok, rather quickly!) I got the stock removed and was left with the receiver and a metal rod. So I chose the plates which will have the drop and cast I´m looking for, placed the stock back on to the rod, then screwed all parts back into their places. No effort at all, well, a bit as I am not used to this kind of stuff. But this really speaks volumes about the ease and simplicity Benelli has created for us clumsy klutz :)

Now all is left, is me back at the shooting range to see how well I did! Later this week I´m going to bring a hunting gun, a Benelli 828U multichoke 26" with a short lenght of pull to a lady looking for a new reliable partner. This would be a perfect compagnion for a woodcock hunt with a spaniel, for example. We´ll see, if she´ll agree!
