Game Bag continues ... 21 - 30

A new season is now officially open, looking forward to exciting moments and keeping my cool!

I do enjoy moments up on the highseat, but nothing beats the feeling when you hear the dachshund approaching and barking, there must be something he´s after ...

23. 4.11. white-tailed deer, female At this time of the year it´s dark pretty soon after 5, so I went early, around 15 and a big buck was already there. He waited until I got on my highseat and took off.. A total of about dozen deer were on the field, but too far away >200 meters. It was already getting a bit dusky, when all of a sudden there was a light colored female about 50 meters away, it moved sideways and jumped over the ditch and I squeezed the trigger. Another deer was eating in the grass land, but it was too hard to aim as it was dark - so I did not risk it. I am happy with the doe!
22. 11.10. fallow deer, > 1 yr This happened in Eastern Germany. I was on a highseat on the edge of a steep hill, looking down to a gorge. This area was perfect for fallow deer, and a nice buck did come first. It would have set me back by € 500, so I chose not to shoot. Moments later a doe came with two calves. I took my time watching them, and then had one of the calves sideways to me - so I squeezed. I had never before shot to such a deep angle, so I knew not to overdo it, but still the shot could have been a bit higher. I lost sight of the calf, so I waited for 10 mins, then went down to have a look, and there she was - just about 10 meters from where I shot her. My first ever fallow deer.
21. 23.9.25 white-tailed deer, buck > 1 yr I had only been there for about 10 minutes, when a group of bucks, two with really nice antlers and one modest came. We are not allowed to shoot big bucks before the rut, so I had to wait for the smaller one to offer his side. The three even spooked something that was moving in the forest behind them, but then settled to enjoy their dinner. I took a shot, and it was a really good, clean hit to his heart. I´ve earned one gin & tonic tonight!
