Kytiksellä ja ajojahdissa // Ambush & drive hunting

Sorsaa, kanadanhanhia, metsäkaurista, hirveä ja peuraa!

Kaikkea otsikon riistaa on sekä havaittu, että pyydetty. Eräksi asti on tullut heinureita, kaksi peuraa ja supikoira. Alkukaudesta kiväärin kanssa mennään usein kytikselle, noin kahdeksaan asti näkee vielä ja elämää on ollut. Hirvikanta elää ja voi hyvin, joskaan eräksi asti ei edelleenkään - mutta ehkä tällä kaudella. Ainakin on yritystä, kahdessa hirviseurueessa mukana. Peurat tuntuivat vähenneen vielä joku aika sitten, mutta olisiko vahva petokanta, joka piti ne tiukasti metsän siimeksessä, eikä niitä pelloilla oikein näkynyt. Nyt näkyy - eilenkin 4 peuraa yhtä aikaa ja saman verran kauriita, mutta kaikki liian kaukana ja peurat myös isoja pukkeja, joita ei ammuta ennen kiimaa. 

Sorsia on ollut vallan hyvin, on useampaan kertaan käyty kokeilemassa ja viimeksi isoon rooliin pääsivät koirat; seisoja ja noutaja. Ikikuunapäivänä ei olisi kaikkia omin voimin löydetty, nyt kaikki saatiin talteen - meitä oli 5 metsästäjää ja yhteissaalis noin tusinan verran. Hyviä tilanteita ja erityiskiitos jahtikumppaneille - yhtään hasardilaukausta tai muuta hölmöilyä (lukuunottamatta yritystäni ampua, vaikka ase oli tyhjä 😁). Toki ohiampumisia, oma saldoni: 6 laukausta ja kaksi osumaa. Kohtuudella siis. 

Ja noutaja ymmärsi, ettei kaaveista kannata välittää - viimeksi se hermostuksissaan toi kaaveen. Eipä tuonut enää.

Huomioita ovat ainakin nämä:

- teräspatruunoiden osalta ryyneille on saatava läpäisyä, sorsilla alkaa olla jo kokoa tähän aikaan vuodesta. Chedditeltä löytyy hyviä (ja Eräkolmiolla on paraikaa muuttomyynti, kun siirtyvät Tuulosesta Lammin keskustaan) vaihtoehtoja.

- puoliautomaatti B.Raffaello Be Diamond A.I. BE.S.T on elementissään näissä nopeissa tilanteissa; enpä vaihtaisi!

- sorsat ovat olleet terveitä ja maistuneet mainiosti erilaisissa kattauksissa; perunasta jyväpastaan

- koirille tämä on aivan loistavaa tekemistä - niistä näkee, että ovat elementissään!

 - supikoiria on paljon, niitä on saatu onneksi myös poistettua jokunen

- hanhet ovat kovin oppivaisia; muuttavat reittiään kun niitä yritetään yhdestä paikasta verottaa

The best time of the year is here!

Roe deer, white-tailed deer, moose, Canada goose, invasive species, mallards - but success with white-tailed, raccoon dogs and mallards, so far. I´ve sat perhaps 10 times on a high seat and almost every night seen a lot, but either too far away, or too dark or the wrong type. Currently, we are allowed to shoot white-tailed bucks with 3 or less points, moose calves and females without any. But the good news is, even if the deer population is said to be on the decline (which has been the target), there are still plenty. But now you have to wait and choose, and as always, make sure the shooting distances are decent. For me, it is absolutely not 200 meters or more. So far, two deer down, a raccoon dog and half a dozen mallards. So a nice start, and I´ve enjoyed every minute. Well, perhaps not those where my dog brings back decoys - but I think this week, even if there was plenty of work for him (and our pointer), he still managed to be a bit cooler than before and left decoys be. Instead together with our pointer they did a fantastic job in finding all of the downed birds. My humble opinion: waterfowling should not be allowed without a retrieving dog. 

The Canada geese have been too clever for us, they know when to fly high and they also learn to change their flying routes. But the mallard hunting has more than made up for that, it´s been great - and I also have to mention my party. Everytime we´ve been out it´s been controlled and safe for both the two- and four-legged hunters!!

Moose hunting season is also open and my club already has one down, I am expecting my first meat package (usually both ground beef and some steaks) today. I´ve been out once, no moose but a couple of deer came so close I could nearly touch them. But the rule was, if you were out because of moose, that´s the only thing to shoot. Yesterday there were both roe and white-tailed deer, but either too far away or the wrong kind. We are saving the big bucks for the rut.
