Ajojahdissa ja kytisjahdissa // Drive hunt and highseat stalking

Metsällä on oltu, niin järven rannalla muuttosorsia väijymässä - vain vähän iltapalaa saaliina ja iloisia koiria - kuin myös ajojahdissa ja kytikselläkin. Sorsien osalta on sanottava, että lintuja ei ole mahdottoman paljon, ainakaan Viron parviin verrattuna, ja monena iltana on palattu tyhjin käsin. Jos joku on saatukin, niin pimeä tulee jo varsin varhain. Vesilintujen metsästyshän päättyy tunti auringonlaskun jälkeen.  

Hirvestys on vielä kesken ja takaraivossani ihan tuhannen taalan paikka, jonka jätin käyttämättä, kun ei ollut 100 % varmuutta siitä, että lehmä oli yksin. Mitä ilmeisimmin se oli, ja ammuttiin sitten samalta alueelta viikkoa myöhemmin, mutta kun käsky oli, että ollaan extra-varovaisia, eikä vasa välttämättä ole ihan kyljessä. Minä odotin ja sitten olikin jo liian myöhäistä. Sain kuitenkin hetken katsella lehmää Swarovskin läpi ja tehdä sitten tietoisen ratkaisun, etten ammu. Tulee se joskus vielä kohdalle niin, että puristan.

Peuran kohdalla on sanottava, että kannan kasvu on ainakin pysähtynyt. Ihan sellaista pankkia ei kytispaikoilla ole, kuin aikaisemmin - ja nyt on rajoituksia myös sen suhteen, mitä ammutaan. Säästelemme nyt lehmiä ja isoja pukkeja. Oman peurani olen ampunut, samoin yhden kauriin - lihaa on pakkasessa mukavasti ja erilaisia riistavariaatioita on tulossa. 

Ajojahdeissa on ollut ilo myös olla koiran kanssa. Mainion mäyräkoiran kanssa olen lähtenyt liikkeelle ja seurannut, kuinka se hakee ja tekee vimmatusti töitä, jotta ajettavaa löytyisi. Kerran sattui ajettavaksi metsäjänis ihan ruskeassa kesäpuvussa, ja se oli mainio otus. Se oli selvästi tilanteen tasalla. Se nökötti kuusen persauksessa ja siihen se myös palasi juoksutettuaan ajuria lenkin, ja sitten pompotteli kaikessa rauhassa uuteen suuntaan. Minullakin oli aikanaan (suomen)ajokoira, josta on sanottava, että se oli suhteellisen helppo saada kiinni, mutta ei se sentään torven töräyksellä lähtenyt tulemaan autolle, niinkuin tämä nykyinen kumppani. Upea otus, vaikka haasteita on arjessa - ego ei meinaa aina mahtua saman katon alle :)

Yes, we did have snow, but now it´s all gone. Let´s see, when it returns, or will it?

It´s been a busy month since we came back from Estonia. Lots of hunting opportunities, processing game meat - and eating it, too. Waterfowling is coming to its end, there are still mallards - the waters are open and they can find food, but also darkness comes early - at around 5 p.m. and ofcourse every day a bit earlier. We are allowed to hunt one hour after sunset, and currently sun sets at my location at 15:55. So there´s really no time on weekdays, and on weekends it´s been both drive and highseat hunting.

The dog in the picture is one very good dachshund, a heavenly creature when hunting. Very good at finding game, excellent hound and so nice towards people - and what is amazing, is super easy to catch. Last time he was headed towards the neighbouring club, so we had to go catch him before he crossed the border - so we drove, saw him by the side of a field, honked the car horn - and he immeadiately started running towards us. Just amazing! But at home he can be a nuisance, will boss around the other dogs, and will mark his territory even inside the house.. 😒 But all is forgiven once he´s off the leash - he does deliver!!

The white-tailed deer population is less than what it was a year ago. Each member gets to shoot one for him/herself, and I´ve got mine. I also have shot my roedeer, so there´s meat in the fridge. I also got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shoot a moose, but did not, as it could have had a calf, and there was a special radio announcement about it by the hunting boss. So I left her be. Turned out - naturally - she was alone, so would have been ok to shoot her, and probably she did end up being shot the next week. She was found in the same area and did meet her faith. My turn will come, I´m sure - I just want to keep peace and obey the orders. For me hunting is more about the entire experience than the lust to kill as much as possible.

What´s coming? Well, the 300 m rifle competition and perhaps some winter time compaq shooting, and more drive hunting. The seats we got from Asepaja M.Vuorela are just spot-on.
