Takaisin radalla // Back to the shooting range

Ampumaradat avautuvat ja on aika ottaa taas rataharjoittelu todesta. Aloitin haulikolla, Benelli 828U Sport on rasvattu ja tehtaalta saamani hieno liivi ajettu sisään. Kaikki muu tuntuukin sitten olevan työn takana. Pohjanoteerauksena oli Instaan postaamani videonpätkä huonosta nostosta, hitaasta viennistä ja armottomasta tähtäämisestä. Eikä tarvitse tiirailla kiekonpalasia...

Eli kuivaharjoittelua ja sitten asenteella radalle. Meinaan aloittaa uuden uran heti huomenna. Tällä erää lajina on metsästystrap, Lopen radalla on mahdollisuus myös metsästyshaulikkoon (ja skeetiin), mutta compac-ratakin toivoakseni avataan ensi viikolla. 

Olen pitänyt omista ja lainaajien ampumisista AMPUMA-ammuntapäiväkirjaa. Ase on nyt ollut minulla vuoden ja laukauksia on 3272. Ilman ensimmäistäkään aseesta johtuvaa ongelmaa. Ahkeran kuntoilun seurauksena olen pohtinut, josko säätöjä pitää muuttaa - ja tässä aseessahan voin tehdä hyvin pitkälle itse, ainakin mitä perän sivuvääryyteen ja pudotukseen tulee. Kunhan kohdistuspaikka saadaan auki, täytyy käydä varmistumassa kuviosta. Syksyn vesilinnustusta ajatellen haasteena on myös löytää hyvin käyvä teräspatruuna - viime vuoden testin perusteella minulla ei oikein ole sellaista. 

So it´s back to training at the shooting range. I have been busy at the gym, so the big question is whether or not I need to do some gun fitting, and what else is going on with my shotgun shooting. The shooting ranges are opening again, after the COVID19-restrictions, and hopefully shooters will come back to keep them afloat. It has been quiet so far, but it´s early days..

In any event, back to me and my shooting. Work to be done. I seem to have forgotten some of the lessons I though I had already learned. First of all my stance, it´s still too easy for me to lean too much forward and hold the gun too far away from my body. So weight on the front foot and gun close to my body, not too low. The muzzles should be on the line of the bird to allow fast mount. 

Then follow the bird, cannot kill what I cannot see. And cannot kill if I´m not ahead of the bird. I need to have my Shotkam installed to see what I am doing now. I was behind the bird, under, to the side - all over the place and had a miserable day, as I kept missing. Also, I was slow with my swing :) 

It was not all misery, I did improve towards the end, but out of the 100 clay pigeons, the hit -% is not something to brag about. I never count when I train, but I can tell you there is a lot of room for improvement. So I´ll be back tomorrow!! But I do have a lovely, new shooting vest by Castellani for Benelli 828U Sport, don´t I?!
